TRANS::FORM examines the power of purification, of penetrating deep into the consciousness. This is where the tides of our psyche take us to dimensions in which we rediscover our inner selves.
The philosophy underlying the project has been provoked by the Japanese contemporary form of dance called Butoh. The minimalist movements lead to a state of trance, during which the body breaks loose from its awkwardness resulting from prejudice accumulated with time. This monotonous, silent trance echoes in our mind with an effect very similar to the rumbling of a train passing nearby.
THE CONCEPT AND BUTOH
„Trans::form” expresses the infinity, the spacious and timeless continuity of a surrealistic scenery. The ceramic works present heads in three different positions symbolizing birth, life and death (heart, soul, spirit – in an interrupted sequence), the three key elements in Butoh, transfusing one into another, forever repeating and transforming. The minimalist and moderate movement of the body is in itself a meditation through which we liberate ourselves, come in touch with and examine our inner soul. This trance takes us to dimensions in which life is a vast eternity where birth and death merge within us and make us indulge the pleasures of life.
BUTOH
Butoh is a controversial dance and one that is by no means easily arrived at or agreed upon by many people. It is very diverse, reaching totally new dimensions. The dancer, well covered in white makeup, reveals through it the truth about human nature, the way it is. In the whiteness/ monochomatics of the space there are layers which fly open and exhibit what in reality happens with us. We feel fear at the sight, our own reality, fear of glancing at us from a different angle. Making it easier to accept the archetypal characteristics of our appearance and our natural beauty is one of the many messages conveyed by Butoh dance.
The power of visualization plays a crucial role in Butoh. Surrealistic pictures in the mind stimulate the body, which is not at all slow to respond. ‘You walk in mud and your eyes are at the back of your head’. Butoh links the conscious with the sub- conscious. All movements are directed from the inside to the outside.
When the body is set free from the social restrictions, then and only then, miracles occur. The magic of freedom comes when you manage to touch the utmost point of your inner self deep within.
